How Cisco Simplified Its Zero-Customer AI Infrastructure for Cisco Nexus Hyperfabric

The greatest breakthroughs are often those that make the impossible simple. With the rapid pace of AI innovation, Cisco recognized that it was time to deliver this breakthrough. Learn how Cisco IT has deployed Nexus Hyperfabric as a customer to help you design, deploy and manage AI infrastructure with greater speed and simplicity than ever before.

AI simplification on the horizon

After more than 27 years working in data centers I’ve seen firsthand how much of a pain it can be to design, build, and manage an AI infrastructure—whether you’re supporting critical business applications or weathering the next wave of AI workloads. It requires a monumental investment of capital, effort, time and resources to make it work—a huge balancing act. Once it’s up and running, it’s difficult to operate, scale, and derive value from. Every day of delay comes at a huge price, from wasted GPU life to service costs to opportunity costs.

In my role, the speed and simplification of the process of building an AI infrastructure would completely change the way I am able to do my job. Ultimately, speed and simplicity are the keys to reducing the weight of these costs and unlocking the maximum value of AI.

In mid-2025, Cisco leadership has tasked my team and me with building an AI cluster that could support our in-house AI assistant — a powerful tool that increased employee productivity by 73%. During the summer of 2025, our product and IT teams came together to achieve this at our facility in Allen, TX. We set out to build this AI cluster in record time, hoping to match the unprecedented speed of AI innovation.

Fortunately, Cisco was already working on a solution that could transform this process, and this presented a unique opportunity to step in as Customer Zero. Enter Cisco Nexus Hyperfabric A new complete AI infrastructure solution from Cisco.

Simplicity as a customer zero

Nexus Fabretc is a network structure managed by the cloud as a withservice that allows organizations to easily design, deploy, manage and scale multiple fabrics globally mediumdidn’t have experienceahemquietly. His the perfect tool for network engineers and you with little-on-no experienceertisE in the building and AI fabrics. It offers a vertically integrated approach that unifies on-premiseE network, computing technologyEGPU and storage.

We started with a blank slate. After selecting the current template and entering the required specifications (such as cluster size, hardware, etc.), Cisco Nexus Hyperfabric provided us with a comprehensive blueprint for our new AI fabric—with every port, cable, server, and switch mapped in detail to maximize performance and efficiency. All done in no time.

This screenshot shows an overview of the Hyperfabric planned schedule for our AI cluster.

However, it is not just a design tool. Once we validated the design, Cisco Nexus Hyperfabric’s integration with our ordering tools allowed us to generate a BOM based on the design and order everything we needed—all GPUs, servers, and cabling—with the push of a button.

Shortly after, our materials arrived in Texas and we were fully built and configured. network in just six days. Processes that used to take up to six months now took just days. It was clear: TThe era of simplified network engineering has arrived.

The New Normal: Accessible Governance for the AI Era

With Nexus Hyperfabric, day 0 and day 1 operations have completely changed for us. It also raises the bar for network operations on Day 2. With its network controller component, Nexus Hyperfabric brings a technological shift in the way we monitor and manage our fabric, bringing faster and more prescriptive remediation and making it easier for us to keep fabrics online and stable.

The system presents us with problems in messages like: “this cable has been pulled“gold”this connection between the server and the switch is not working.“This helps us immediately focus on the cause of the problem instead of spending hours troubleshooting the ability to keep our AI infrastructure running and maximize ROI is an absolute game changer.

All of this is possible because Nexus Hyperfabric does not use typical protocols such as syslog or Simple Network Management (SNMP); instead, it pioneers a new protocol that verifies network health on a schedule. This approach allows even those without deep knowledge of network engineering to keep our fabric resilient in the most demanding environments.

Because of our structure at Allen, anyone in our IT organization can troubleshoot when problems arise, not just experienced network engineers. This level of accessibility provides resiliency never before possible, allowing our applications to remain resilient and our employees to remain productive.

Convergence of simplicity and speed

For Cisco IT, Nexus Hypertextiles solves the northal ztHey key issues that have historically hindered our ability build and manage AI infrastructure with speed and efficiency:

  • Deployment speed: Nexus Hyperfabric transformed the deployment time of our AI cluster from six months to just six days. By automating design, generating optimized plans and integrating with ordering systems, it enabled rapid build and configuration. This maximized the lifespan of our infrastructure, return on investment, and time-to-value.
  • Ease of deployment and management: Nexus Hyperfabric makes AI fabric deployment and management accessible to IT professionals, not just network engineers. Its cloud-managed design guides non-experts through deployment and operations, and schedule-based monitoring provides clear, actionable information. This allows IT professionals to maintain resilient structures without deep networking experience.

Stacking the benefits

As powerful as these results are, the real power is unlocked when everything comes together: the availability of Nexus Hyperfabric and the power Cisco 6000 Series Switches, UCS servers, Silicon Oneand optics. When they all come together, they will enable us to deliver AI infrastructure that delivers more meaningful value to our customers and employees, faster than ever before.

For businesses looking to build an AI infrastructure that solves real-world problems quickly and at scale, Nexus Hyperfabric can be the difference between successful and failed builds.

While we look to the past for inspiration, it’s clear that the future of AI infrastructure will be defined by how simply, quickly and efficiently it can be built and managed. Cisco Nexus Hyperfabric is the perfect tool to help us achieve this.
